With wings outstretched against layers of luminous blues and textured light, Oklahoma Scissor Tail was created as a reminder of trust, freedom, and quiet reassurance.

Inspired by the graceful movement of Oklahoma’s state bird, this original mixed media and oil painting blends expressive texture with softness and motion to create a feeling of peace and wonder. The vibrant warmth of the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher contrasts against the cool atmospheric background, drawing the eye toward both movement and stillness at once.

In the upper left corner, one of my favorite scriptures is subtly woven into the painting:

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

This verse has always felt grounding to me — a reminder that even in seasons of uncertainty, fear, or striving, we are seen and cared for.

Through layered brushwork, texture, and light, this piece was created to evoke emotional connection, faith, and a sense of calm presence. Like much of my work, it reflects the beauty of fleeting moments and the invitation to slow down long enough to notice them.
